Osaka and Nara wedding photos: Osaka Castle, Nara Park, prices, rules and seasons

Updated: 2026-11-02
A riverside street in Dotonbori, OsakaOsaka & Nara: prices, photo rules, seasons

Osaka and Nara are the easiest pre-wedding locations to reach from Kansai International Airport: Osaka Castle's keep and moats, Japanese gardens in the city, then Nara Park's deer, Ukimido pavilion and Sarusawa Pond less than an hour away. They also cost less than many Kyoto plans. But there are rules that catch couples out. Kasuga Taisha in Nara bans wedding-outfit photos (kimono included) unless you married there, and Osaka City requires a permit for wedding photo shoots in its parks. This guide compares studios that publish Osaka and Nara prices and have English pages or English support, then covers photo rules, seasons from Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) data and getting there. Every source is listed at the end.

Heart Art and JAPAN WEDDINGS don't say on these pages whether tax is included; ask. JAPAN WEDDINGS shows the ¥550,000 packages as a sale price against a "regular price" of ¥618,000. DE&Co.'s Lite Plan page is in Chinese and applies only to shoots from June 1 to October 31 and December 11 to March 15. LA-VIE's Osaka area page lists 13 locations, including Osaka Castle, Daisen Park, Nara Park, Mt. Wakakusa, Imai-cho and Hasedera Temple. Waplus's plan names three shops (Nara Kimono Rental, Nara Tea Ceremony and Kyoto Yasaka Shrine) but doesn't say whether the wedding plan is shot indoors or outside; ask before you book. Photographer-only service Capture My Japan also covers Osaka, from ¥60,500 for 1 hour including tax; outfits, hair and makeup are yours to arrange.

Which one fits?

Want a real ceremony rather than photos? Osaka has two shrines that publish wedding plans: Sumiyoshi Taisha (family wedding for 6 from ¥800,000; English wedding page) and Tamatsukuri Inari Shrine (ceremony plan ¥323,400 including tax; it says it welcomes international couples). Our Shinto wedding guide explains the ceremony.

Photo rules in Nara and Osaka

Kasuga Taisha: no wedding outfits

Kasuga Taisha's notice on photography in its grounds (a Japanese PDF) applies to the main shrine and also the National Treasure Museum, the Manyo Botanical Garden, Mt. Mikasa, Tobihino, the Negi-michi path and the shrine's outlying sub-shrines. It prohibits, in principle (checked November 2026):

The same notice says Tobihino is part of Kasuga Taisha's grounds, not Nara Park, and that questions about the deer sanctuary (Rokuen) go to the Nara Deer Preservation Foundation. In practice, the wide lawn east of Nara Park's centre is off limits for wedding photos. Studio Zero's Nara locations are Nara Park, Ukimido, Sarusawa Pond and Mt. Wakakusa.

Osaka Castle Park and other Osaka City parks

Osaka City's guide to park-use permits says everyday use needs no application, but activities restricted by the city's park ordinance, which it says include events, gatherings and wedding photo shoots, need the park manager's permission. Osaka Castle Park is handled by the Osaka Castle Park Center. The guide asks you to consult the park first, apply about a month before, and pay the fee when you collect the permit; fees aren't refunded if you cancel for your own reasons, rain included. Its fee table lists ¥10,870 per 2 hours for commercial location and film shoots. It doesn't say which category a pre-wedding shoot falls into; the park manager decides.

What this means for you: if a studio includes Osaka Castle Park in its price, ask whether it applies for the permit and whether the fee is included. DE&Co.'s Lite Plan includes permit applications with fees charged at cost; Capture My Japan says it helps with location applications.

Nara Park

Nara Park is managed by Nara Prefecture. We tried to check Nara Prefecture's official site for the park's rules on wedding and commercial photography in November 2026, but the site could not be reached (certificate and connection errors), so we have not confirmed whether a permit or fee applies and don't state one here. Studio Zero and JAPAN WEDDINGS both sell Nara Park plans; ask them who handles any permission. Our own advice, whatever the rules: the deer are wild animals, so give them space and don't use deer crackers as a photo prop.

Best season for Osaka and Nara wedding photos

JMA climate normals (1991–2020) for its Osaka and Nara stations, plus its cherry blossom and maple observations.

PeriodOsakaNaraWhat it means
December–FebruaryJanuary mean 6.2°C; 47–61 mm of rain a monthJanuary mean 4.5°C, average low 0.8°CCold but dry; Nara is colder. No Mt. Wakakusa shoots (Studio Zero)
Late March–early AprilBlossoms open March 27 and reach full bloom April 4 on average (2026: March 26 and April 3)Open March 28, full bloom April 4 on average (2026: March 24 and March 31)Peak season: busy, and Studio Zero adds ¥30,000
June–JulyKinki rainy season normally June 6 to July 19 (2026: June 2 to July 9); June rain 185 mmJune rain 184 mmWettest stretch; keep a backup date
AugustAverage high 33.7°CAverage high 33.4°CVery hot for layered kimono; shoot early
October–NovemberNovember rain 72.5 mm, 152.6 hours of sun; maples turned on December 4, 2025 (3 days later than normal)November rain 71.2 mm; maples turned on November 14, 2025 (7 days earlier than normal)Settled weather and autumn colour

JMA's maple date is when most leaves on a specific observation tree have turned red, so it isn't the same as the best viewing at a given spot. Nothing is guaranteed: LA-VIE FACTORY says seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves can't be promised, and DE&Co. recommends booking at least 6 months ahead for blossom and leaf season (site database).

FAQ

How much is a pre-wedding photoshoot in Osaka?

From ¥128,000 including tax (approx. US$810) at Studio Zero for Osaka Castle Park and other locations, with kimono, hair and makeup, a car and about 200 photos. With an interpreter, DE&Co. charges ¥280,000 before tax and LA-VIE FACTORY ¥396,000. Weekend and peak-season extras apply at some studios.

Can we take wedding photos at Kasuga Taisha in Nara?

Not unless you marry there. Kasuga Taisha prohibits, in principle, photos in a wedding dress or wedding kimono by couples who didn't hold their ceremony at the shrine, even for personal use. The Tobihino meadow is part of its grounds.

Do we need a permit to shoot at Osaka Castle Park?

Osaka City's park-use guide lists wedding photo shoots among the activities that need the park manager's permission, applied for about a month ahead. Its fee table shows ¥10,870 per 2 hours for commercial location shoots. Ask your studio whether it handles this.

Can we shoot Osaka and Nara on the same day?

Yes, logistically: Osaka-Namba to Kintetsu-Nara is about 35 minutes. Most half-day plans cover one location, though, so choose a two-location or full-day plan and count the travel time.

When is cherry blossom season in Osaka and Nara?

JMA's normal full-bloom date is April 4 in both cities. In 2026 it came on April 3 in Osaka and March 31 in Nara.
